There are three chants I’ve heard at Lincoln Financial Field that will stick with me forever:
- Eagles fans took the Vikings’ “SKOL” chant and turned it into a “FOLES” chant during the 2017 NFC Championship Game. We all totally cucked their fan base.
- A 3-7 Eagles team was playing on Monday Night Football in 2012. They lost 30-22. “FIRE ANDY clap-clap-clapclapclap” rang through the stadium. Andy Reid was gone after that season.
- This past Sunday, 60,000 Eagles fans chanted “RUN THE BALL! RUN THE BALL!” Starting running back Miles Sanders had seven carries against Kansas City following a bewildering game against the Cowboys where he had just two.
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a bigger disconnect between the Eagles franchise and the fan base that I do right now. I’m usually a “LET’S THROW IT EVERY SINGLE TIME” guy, but, hey, football teams really do need to run the ball at some point.
Following a 1-3 start, the Eagles still have an absolutely brutal gauntlet of a schedule remaining. A loss against Carolina this week could see the Eagles dropping to 1-6 with games against the Buccaneers and Raiders looming.
Jalen Hurts played well enough on Sunday. I like what I’ve seen from him this year outside of his disastrous performance in Dallas. Regardless of whether the organization deems Hurts “THE GUY” for 2022 and beyond, I have a feeling that Nick Sirianni might not be here to see it through.
The little quirks that made Sirianni endearing get worn out when the team isn’t performing. He just seems overmatched. It’s as if the Eagles organization is playing a demented game by hiring the least experienced coach possible and seeing how quickly they could make 2021 a lost season.
