Mike Greenberg is set to be named the new host of “NBA Countdown,” the New York Post reports.
Greenberg, currently the host of the morning show “Get Up,” will replace Maria Taylor, who left the company in July and now works for NBC Sports.
According to the report, Greenberg will be joined by Stephen A. Smith of “First Take,” Michael Wilbon and Jalen Rose. Hall of Famer Magic Johnson will appear on the show for the network’s marquee games.
ESPN declined to comment about the report to the New York Post.
Among Greenberg’s duties will be the host of the pregame and postgame coverage of the NBA Finals.
The position held by Taylor ended the night the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Phoenix Suns in Game 6 of the Finals.
Taylor was the subject of a 2020 phone conversation, reported on July 6 by the New York Times, between colleague Rachel Nichols and Adam Mendelsohn, the longtime adviser of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.
In the leaked audio, Nichols praised Taylor but also discussed her frustration with not being chosen for “NBA Countdown” host. She expressed her opinion that Taylor got the assignment because the network was feeling pressure to improve its record on racial issues.
