Detroit Lions approval poll: Head coach Dan Campbell (October 2021) – prideofdetroit.com

The Detroit Lions are 0-5, but you would not really know it by taking the pulse of fans these days. The general temperament of a Lions fan recently still feels mostly positive, even if the last few Sundays have been especially frustrating.

The Lions are not a good team. I don’t think that is a point that is currently up for debate. But a team can be bad and well-coached.

Is that what is currently happening in Detroit?

Dan Campbell has been a wildly popular character in Detroit ever since his fiery introductory press conference back in January. Not only has he been entertaining, but his honesty has been refreshing after last year’s oppressive regime.

But it’s one thing to have a great personality, and it’s another to be a good head coach. You can certainly make the argument that the Lions are bereft of talent due to low offseason resources and horrible injury luck, but the Lions are 0-5 nonetheless. Are they playing above their talent level? Is taking good teams to the brink good enough in Year 1 of a rebuild? Has Campbell’s controversial in-game decisions helped or hurt the Lions’ chances of getting that first win? Those are subjective questions with subjective answers.

Which brings us to this month’s approval poll. Before you give your take on Campbell’s performance through one week of the regular season, let’s look at his approval ratings thus far.

January 2021: 78 percent approval
July 2021: 97 percent approval

(Note: I promise to do these more often going forward)

There was a fair amount of skepticism when Campbell was hired, but he quickly won the fanbase over by training camp. Now that we’re starting to see the results on the field, can he keep the good vibes going from the fan base?
