Los Angeles Dodgers ace pitcher Max Scherzer will not start Game 6 of the National League Championship Series on Saturday in Atlanta, a source confirmed to The Athletic, as first reported by the Los Angeles Times. Scherzer was scheduled to start with the Dodgers facing a must-win game, trailing 3-2 in the best-of-seven series.
Scherzer last pitched Sunday in a 5-4 Dodgers loss in Game 2 of the series. Scherzer, who said his “arm was dead” after Game 2, went 4 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs while striking out seven on 79 pitches. The Dodgers have already lost Joe Kelly and Justin Turner to season-ending injuries in the NLCS, and have been without Clayton Kershaw and Max Muncy in the postseason.
