Miles Sanders injury: Eagles running back carted off with injured ankle in Raiders game – Bleeding Green Nation

UPDATE: Miles Sanders has been downgraded to out and won’t return on Sunday due to an ankle injury sustained in the first quarter.

The Eagles were actually committed to Miles Sanders and the run game to start their Sunday game against the Raiders, but on their second offensive drive, Sanders went down with an ankle injury and looked in a lot of pain. The running back was quickly listed as questionable to return, but as Sanders exited the field with a towel over his head, and was then carted into the locker room, it seems doubtful he gets back on the field in Week 7.

Before going down with the injury, Sanders had six carries for 30 yards, and was even given the ball on the first play of the game — which is kind of a big deal given the Eagles’ RB only had one carry in the entire first half last Thursday against the Buccaneers.

Now, the run game will fall on rookie Kenneth Gainwell, who was the first Eagle in the endzone on Sunday, and Boston Scott. Scott hasn’t gotten much playing time through the first six games of the season, but Gainwell has earned notable carries on third down and in the redzone. It really sucks for Sanders, but hopefully the Eagles don’t shy away from the ground game in his absence.

Stay tuned for more updates.
