TL;DR
- A new leak has revealed how message reactions will work wen they eventually come to WhatsApp.
- Users will apparently have six emoji to choose from and the feature will be available in group and individual chats.
We first heard about message reactions coming to WhatsApp back in August, as WhatsApp watcher WABetaInfo reported that the feature was coming to the IM app. This would allow users to react to messages with an emoji (such as a thumbs-up), akin to Facebook, Discord, Slack, and other platforms.
We’ve now received more information about message reactions thanks to WABetaInfo once again, giving us a better idea of how it will work. For one, the tipster confirmed that these reactions will be available in both individual chats and group chats, reiterating that they won’t be anonymous.
Interestingly enough, the source notes that users can only react to a message once and that there are six different emoji to choose from. So those hoping for a wide variety of reaction options or even custom reactions might be disappointed (although custom stickers are a welcome addition this week).
We also get a peek at a screenshot (seen above), showing that users will be able to view all reactions to a message or filter them by a specific emoji.
In any event, there isn’t a release date for message reactions to come to WhatsApp just yet, but the leaker claims that it is indeed in development for both Android and iOS.
