Is a quarterback change coming for the New Orleans Saints? – Deseret News

Taysom Hill has not played a single snap the past two weeks for the New Orleans Saints, but that could be changing as the team tries to end a four-game losing streak.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Hill is taking first-team quarterback reps for the Saints this week ahead of the team’s Thursday night game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Trevor Siemian, who has started the past four games for New Orleans, is taking second-team reps, per Rapoport.

The Times-Picayune’s Jeff Duncan reported that Hill has been dealing with a plantar fascia injury in his foot, an indication why he’s served as backup QB the past two weeks while not playing his usual role as a utility player.

Rapoport said that if Hill makes it through the week healthy, he is expected to be the Saints’ starting quarterback against the Cowboys.

Siemian has been the team’s starting quarterback since Jameis Winston tore his ACL and injured his MCL during the Saints’ win over Tampa Bay on Oct. 31.

New Orleans has not won since that game, going 0-4 with Siemian as the starter. He’s completed 57.2% of his passes for 1,083 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions this season.

Hill was in the concussion protocol when Winston was lost for the season, and despite being in a competition with Winston during training camp to be the Saints’ starting quarterback, he hasn’t started a game yet this year.

Hill, the former BYU star, has instead played his utility role on offense and special teams. In 2020, he filled in at quarterback for an injured Drew Brees and went 3-1 as a starter.

Last week, Hill reportedly agreed to a four-year contract extension worth anywhere from $40 million to $95 million, depending on his role with the Saints.
