Pacers Malcolm Brogdon expected win after slowing Warriors Steph Curry – NBC Sports

With Steph Curry ever-so-close to breaking Ray Allen’s all-time NBA 3-point record, any team that can successfully stave off the Warriors’ star and his pursuit of history should be applauded.

Curry needs just one 3-pointer to tie Allen’s record (2,973) and two to break it after collecting five triples in Golden State’s 102-100 win over the Indiana Pacers on Monday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Pacers guard Malcolm Brogdon, who was tasked with guarding Curry for most of Monday night’s game, was pleased with the job he and his team did in guarding Steph and preventing history from being made on their home court.

“Yeah you know, he’s the focal point,” Brogdon told reporters postgame. “He’s their engine and when you slow him down you expect to win the game. We definitely slowed him down, we did a great collective job on him. They’ve got other players, they’re pros over there, they’re really good players over there.

“Huge. He’s one of the best in the world. That’s just what it is. I know he was trying to get that record tonight and in my mind, I wasn’t going to make that happen, not in our arena … I’m looking at his stats, for him it’s probably a tough night but he had a decent game. I thought we did a good job on him.”

Curry scored 26 points but did so on 8-of-20 shooting from the field and 5-of-15 from 3-point range while committing seven turnovers.

Curry did not break the ever-elusive record, which will likely be broken Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden when the Warriors take on the New York Knicks in the second game of a back-to-back.

Brogdon and the Pacers, despite the Warriors stealing a win away from them, can hold their heads high after delaying Curry’s pursuit of history.
