Oregon picked up a huge addition in the 2023 recruiting class on New Year’s Day for new coach Dan Lanning as four-star cornerback Cole Martin committed to the Ducks on CBS Sports HQ. Martin has been connected to multiple Pac-12 schools over the course of his recruitment, so this is a huge win for the first-year Ducks coach in the 2023 cycle.
Martin ranks as a top-10 cornerback and top-100 prospect in the 2023 class. He’s long been on the recruiting radar, carrying two FBS scholarship offers before the start of his high school career. He is the son Demetrice Martin, a former all-conference cornerback at Michigan State, who has been an assistant coach in the Pac-12 since 2009 with stops at Washington, UCLA, Arizona and Colorado. He was recently hired to Lanning’s staff at Oregon, however.
The hire of Demetrice Martin changed the projections for Martin’s recruitment and made the choice of Oregon seem likely when the news was announced. Now both Martins will join Lanning and the rest of the Oregon football program in trying to continue to boost the 2023 class with more blue-chip talent.
