A proud dad uttered the F-bomb twice on live television moments after his daughter made history for New Zealand at the Winter Olympics

Snowboarder Zoi Sadowski-Synnott became a national hero when she won the women’s slopestyle event in Beijing on Sunday – New Zealand’s first ever gold medal at a Winter Games.

But it was her dad watching back home who almost stole her thunder on national television shortly afterwards.

Sean Synnott couldn’t contain his excitement during a priceless live cross with Newshub as he celebrated with friends and family in Wanaka.

‘The only thing I looked for was her younger sister’s reaction,’  the real estate agent said.

‘She was (going) f***** crazy, she was going off the roof.’

But the expletives didn’t end there.

‘I’m pretty f*****g excited, to be honest, and I’m really happy to see all the investment from all of these people has turned out,’ Mr Synnott continued.

He then offered a bizarre response when asked by the reporter how hard his daughter had worked to become an Olympic champion.

‘Well the toilet blocked up this morning, ah, yesterday morning,’ he replied.

It didn’t take long for the footage to go viral with some viewers already hailing it as the live interview of the year.

‘Oh please make that interview with Zoi Sadowski-Synnott’s dad go viral. So Kiwi,’ one viewer posted.

Another added: ‘The visibly proud father scored highly in freestyle commentary striking a stunning blow for free speech not once, but twice on prime time TV. They are going to name a pub after him in Wanaka for sure. Legend!

Mr Synnott was fast asleep by the time his daughter received her gold medal hours later in early hours of Monday New Zealand time.

‘I haven’t actually seen the medal ceremony yet but I’m sure there’ll be a flood of tears,’ he told RNZ on Monday.

‘After my couple of F-bombs on live TV and two big whiskeys, I slept pretty well.’

Sadowski-Synnott was born in Sydney to a Kiwi dad and American mum and spent the first six years of her life in Newport on the northern beaches before the family moved across the Tasman to Wanaka on New Zealand’s South Island.

The two-time world champion was in the silver medal position behind USA’s Julia Marino on Sunday as she went down the slopes as the final competitor in slopestyle final.

Sadowski-Synnott pulled out an incredible performance to steal gold with a score of 92.88 on her third and final run.

Her best friend Australian Tess Coady held on to claim bronze.

Sadowski-Synnott’s gold medal adds to the bronze won in the Big Air at the Pyeongchang Games as a 16-year-old four years ago.

It was also a big day for Australia at the Games by winning two Winter Olympic medals in one day for the first time.

Jakara Anthony won the women’s moguls hours after Coady’s bronze medal to become Australia’s sixth gold medallist at the Winter Olympics.
