After season four of Ozark dropped in January, and the premiere of Inventing Anna in February, it looks like March will be tragically devoid of projects starring the incredible Julia Garner. Nevertheless, we march on, and next month brings a typical Netflix slate of murder (fake, scary), murder (fake, funny), and murder (real, scary).
Some specific titles that popped out:
The Adam Project, which sounds like the title of indie coming-of-age about a middle class boy discovering he’s gay in the suburbs, is in fact a save-the-world romp starring Ryan Reynolds as a time-traveling fighter pilot who must team up with his younger self in 2022. Obviously. Also starring Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, I’m forced to assume this action-adventure takes place in the 13 Going on 30 cinematic universe.
As a fan, it’s a special day when a comic you’ve been following for years and seen live multiple times gets their debut Netflix special. I can’t wait for the rest of the world to soak in Catherine Cohen’s dynamic, subversive, and hilarious special, The Twist …? She’s Gorgeous (March 15).
I’ll also be watching the meme-inspired Is It Cake? if only to keep my eyes peeled for SNL star Mikey Day to blink twice if he needs help. I’m sure the contestants on the show are wonderful bakers, but the yes-or-no “is it cake?” meme petered out in the summer of 2020. I’m not sure “better late than never” applies to meme culture.
And when it comes to what’s leaving Netflix this month, there’s nothing too shocking or gut-wrenching getting taken from us—assuming you already got in your annual Madagascar movie marathon.
With that out of the way, here’s your Netflix watchlist for March:
