UL offensive line coach D.J. Looney died Saturday early morning after suffering a cardiac arrest throughout a team exercise at Cajun Field.
His death was verified in a declaration launched by the university Saturday aftenroon, “At this time, the Department of Athletics asks that fans, buddies and acquaintances of Coach Looney keep his household and the football program in their thoughts and prayers.”
This was the 31-year-old Looneys 3rd season with ULs program. Under his guidance, the Cajuns had Robert Hunt drafted in the 2nd round this past NFL draft by the Miami Dolphins, while Kevin Dotson was chosen in the fourth round by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In June, long time UL bus chauffeur Mastern St. Julien died.
In July of 2019, the department was rocked again with the loss of long time baseball coach Tony Robichaux to heart disease..
Later last July, mens basketball coach Bob Marlins older brother died of suicide.
Simply as 2019 was ending, former UL athletic director David Walker passed away.
