Texas A&M adds to historic 2022 haul with five-star Lebbeus “LT” Overton – Rivals.com

When Signing Day wrapped up in February, Texas A&M walked away with the nation’s No. 1 overall class and one of the best classes in the modern recruiting era. But as it turns out, the Aggies weren’t done. On Friday, Jimbo Fisher and company added a late commitment from five-star Lebbeus “LT” Overton, the one-time No. 1 overall player in the Class of 2023 who reclassified into the Class of 2022 earlier this year.

“I was born there so that’s where I’m from,” Overton said. “I’ve got family ties there all around. It’s an amazing campus and there’s a great culture already in place.”

Fisher took a hands-on approach recruiting Overton, including making the commitment-sealing pitch on an official visit in March.

“It was a great visit,” Overton said. “The relationships I have with Coach Fisher, (defensive ends) Coach (Terry) Price and (defensive analyst) Coach Nick (Williams) were very important.”

While the official visit helped put the Aggies over the top, he was actually on campus to see the Aggies beat Alabama in the fall and that helped plant the seed that College Station could be his future home.

“After the Alabama game, being able to see that crowd and how they roar during the games, it really brought that sight to my mind,” he said.

Overton joins a class headlined by five-star defensive linemen Walter Nolen and Shemar Stewart, the No. 2 and No. 30 overall players in the Class of 2022 nationally. He said he’s looking forward to learning from and competing with Stewart, Nolen and other members of the Aggies deep defensive line group.

“It’s going to be fun,” Overton said. “We should be one of the best defensive line groups in the nation.”

Overton is set to graduate from high school in May and then head to College Station shortly thereafter.
