Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Director Explains Why Remaster Cut Local Co-Op – Nintendo Life

Last month, Square Enix dropped quite the bombshell when it exposed Last Dream: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition wouldnt support offline or local multiplayer due to development reasons, it selected not to elaborate on at the time.
Now, in an interview with Destructoid, the video games director – Ryoma Araki – has shed some light on the circumstance, describing how it was a “one or the other” sort of situation and local play, instead of cross-play, would have limited it:

the game didnt fit together well with local play that would restrict it to one platform

Executing both a regional play and a cross-platform function into a game might be a difficulty for Square Enix to take on in the future, according to Araki.
Regardless of regional play being cut from the remaster of Crystal Chronicles, the director is positive returning players will still enjoy it and discussed how cross-play makes the multiplayer more accessible – permitting gamers to pick how to play:

I think players of the remaster will enjoy the same multiplayer user experience as they did in the past with the initial video game. 3 of the four platforms that this video game will be released on are portable, so even if all four gamers play on different hardware, they can play together in the very same area, or perhaps if theyre physically far apart. Multiplayer was made so that gamers can choose how to play depending upon their gameplay design.
