Street Fighter 5’s Definitive Update has been in the hands of the players for a few days now. There’s still plenty of time for the new meta to develop, but Street Fighter fans have been adjusting to the massive amount of changes that Capcom managed to fit in.
Just for fun, VesperArcade recently released a tier list for Street Fighter 5 that documents his early impressions on the roster after the big patch. It’s worth keeping in mind that VesperArcade believes that nobody cares about where all the mid tiers are, so his tier list is a bit unique. Rather than placing every character in a specific position, he talks about the top tiers, the bottom tiers and the fighters that are moving in a different direction compared to the previous version of the game.
Once again, Luke is recognized as being the undisputed best character in the Definitive Update. Luke sits at the very top by himself in “Luke tier.” During the video, it’s declare that Luke is in a league of his own.
Moving on from Street Fighter 5’s last DLC fighter, VesperArcade believes that combatants like M. Bison, Guile and Poison will be very strong in this new meta. These characters did not get nerfed as badly as other top tiers like Urien or Cammy.
The bottom five characters according to VesperArcade are Zangief, Nash, Blanka, Dan and… Ryu. It seems that VesperArcade is not impressed with Ryu’s long list of buffs. It’s stated that Ryu is still effectively based on playing with fundamentals in a game where the entire game is designed to counter zoning.
