Sunday’s AT&T Byron Nelson is set for some fireworks with hometown favorite Jordan Spieth in line to potentially win this tournament for the first time in his career. Spieth is one back of leader Sebastian Munoz and vying for his second consecutive victory after taking the RBC Heritage the week after the Masters.
After a so-so 67 Thursday, he’s fired 65-64 and is poised to take two straight wins into his bid for the PGA Championship (and career grand slam) next week at Southern Hills. He’s not the only star in the mix either. Joaquin Niemann is two back, Justin Thomas is three back and Masters champion Scottie Scheffler lurks further back with five strokes between him and Munoz.
It should be great fun to watch Munoz try and hold on to his lead, which was built largely on the stunning 60 he shot in Round 1. He’s in a good spot to win yet again, but he has plenty to worry about behind him as one of the sneaky good events of the year thus far winds down and a major championship week begins as soon as this one concludes.
