Through three video games, its clear that the Royals aggressiveness at the plate factors into the way the Cubs starters have approached these video games. And like Alec Mills and Kyle Hendricks prior to him, Darvish restricted the Royals to barely any good contact on the night. I understand its not a strong lineup, however its still very nice to see three nights in a row.
SIX quality starts in a row for the Cubs. Its unbelievable what the Cubs have done.
Also nice to see? Jeremy Jeffress best in the 8th, and then Colin Rea getting the 9th (five-run lead) … tossing 95 miles per hour with a solid breaker. Hes been a starter (he was the PCL pitcher of the year last year), but thats a pretty intriguing velo bump in relief.
The Cubs got their very first run on a blooped Javy Báez single down the best field line, though many of the focus was on Báez not running out of the box on what ought tove been a simple double. A couple things: (1) it wasnt Báez being lazy– he was clearly just truly confused about where the ball was off the bat; and (2) if Báez had been on second with Rizzo on third, its possible the infield comes in, and its possible that Willson Contrerass subsequent grounder right at the shortstop turns into an out at house. Just sayin you cant constantly assume what happens!
It was Báez who drove in the Cubs 3rd run in the 8th inning, so Im not interested in riding him much. In the 9th, the Cubs included another couple runs with 2 outs.

The Cubs won again! Thats six in a row, and 3 straight over the Royals.
