Twitter fell victim to an unprecedented hack in mid-July, resulting in some of the social networks most noteworthy accounts being taken over to tweet a bitcoin rip-off. And some YouTube accounts have been jeopardized in current days to reveal “live streams” that are in fact bitcoin scams.
A variety of subreddits were taken over and vandalized on Friday, possibly as part of a collaborated project. Hackers supposedly published messages or changed a subreddits design in support of President Donald Trump.
Its uncertain right now how the accounts were jeopardized. A post on r/subredditdrama noted dozens of subreddits that were affected, and many were rather popular, including r/CFB, r/food, r/Japan, r/nfl, r/podcasts, and r/space. It appears that subreddits are in the procedure of reverting back to typical, and some moderators have published messages keeping in mind that their subreddit was compromised.
” An investigation is underway associated to a series of vandalized neighborhoods,” a Reddit representative stated in a declaration to The Verge. “It appears the source of the attacks were jeopardized mediator accounts. We are working to lock down those accounts and bring back affected neighborhoods.”
