With some pressure off his shoulders, perhaps Weidman will be able to perform a little more loosely next time out. However judging off that performance, hes going to have his hands full against anyone greater than Akhmedov in the rankings.
It got dicey for a bit, with Weidman in the center stages of the contest. Akhmedov put it on him in the second round, and it was a big concern of whether he d have the ability to conquer adversity. Weidman did, which alone is informing at this moment in his career.
Weidman did absolutely nothing to show hes going to be a top middleweight once again if were being truthful. What he did, however, is prove he can compete with solid competitors. Its extremely clear Weidman is not done with this part of his life, and he wishes to continue battling as long as possible. A loss here wouldve put him in a genuine rough spot, but winning extends his life in the sport longer.
Nobody, consisting of Chris Weidman, would claim that his performance against Omari Akhmedov was anything special. Weidman won by consentaneous decision, though, and that extends his life as an appropriate name in the sport.
