On Saturday, members of the Football Parents at Ohio State submitted a letter to Big 10 commissioner Kevin Warren asking him to reassess the decision to cancel the 2020 Big 10 football season, along with other fall sports.
On Sunday, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields created a petition on the website MoveOn.org, requesting for signatures in that same effort. From the petition:
This cause is close to my heart – please indication: https://t.co/yFKlYE7pP0
Since 11:40 a.m., the petition had already gotten over 5,000 signatures– by 12:40 p.m., the petition was already over 35,000 signatures– and has been retweeted by lots of Ohio State players, parents, staffers and coaches.
We, the football gamers of the Big Ten, together with the fans and fans of college football, demand that the Big Ten Conference instantly renew the 2020 football season. Permit Big Ten players/teams to make their own choice as to whether they want to play or choose out this fall season. Allow Big Ten players/teams who pick to pull out of playing a fall season to do so without penality (sic) or repercussion.
Why is this important?
We believe that safety protocols have actually been developed and can be kept to mitigate concerns of exposure to Covid 19. We think that we should have the right to make choices about what is finest for our health and our future.
