Eagles training camp observations Day 1: Football is back! – NBC Sports Philadelphia

Sure, there were some obvious distinctions at the NovaCare Complex for the very first padded practice of training camp today..

For beginners, as I got to the center, I had to wear my own mask prior to getting my temperature level checked (98.9) and then was given a surgical mask to view practice. Press reporters were required to socially distance on the sideline and in the bleachers..

Here are my very first observations from Eagles practice this summer..

But who cares? It was football!.

1. OK, so some not-so-great injury news to begin off today. Heres the full injury report from the Eagles to start their padded part of training camp:.

Here is the #Eagles injury report to start the first day in pads:.
– Peters (lower body) daily – Arcega-Whiteside (lower body) everyday- Barnett (lower body) week to week- Hargrave (upper body) is out numerous weeks – Riley (disease)– Dave Zangaro (@DZangaroNBCS) August 17, 2020.

Another injury note is about Andre Dillard. Im told Dillard is getting over a small injury and the Eagles are simply relieving him back in.

Not having Derek Barnett and Javon Hargrave right now is huge, especially since Hargrave is finding out the new defense and hes discovering how to play beside Fletcher Cox..

2. Carson Wentz looks good. He looks visibly larger after bulking up this offseason, however he also looks spry. He took the majority of the reps on the very first day in pads. He tossed some fantastic balls and likewise looks quick on a few rollouts and on one play that appeared like a developed QB keeper..

3. A great first day for 1st-round pick Jalen Reagor. Aside from a couple muffed punts previously in the day, Reagor looked solid as a returner and dynamite on offense. His finest catch came on a diving grab in the corner of completion zone from Wentz..

4. Its amusing due to the fact that typically by this time of the year, I would have already seen all of OTAs and the warmup training school practices. The first time seeing these guys in pads is odd due to the fact that it was a physical day. It was expected to be a lighter day but it didnt feel like it. Even Fletcher Cox agreed there was an included level of competitiveness today..

The greatest hit originated from novice Shaun Bradley. Despite the fact that it was a thud sessions (and not tackle to the ground), Bradley lowered his shoulder and sent Dallas Goedert to the ground during an 11-on-11 duration..

5. Goederts day got much better. A little later in practice, he made the grab of the day in the back of completion zone. He tipped the ball up to himself and captured it with one hand as he dove. It was an appeal. The Eagles were already in a lot of 12 workers on Monday. Goedert will be a huge part of the offense in 2020..

6. A few crucial depth chart notes:.

– Without Hargrave, Malik Jackson was the first-team defensive take on next to Fletcher Cox. Jackson and Cox played simply part of one video game together last year prior to Jackson went down with injury. Cox said he felt like him and Jackson selected up where they ended in Week 1 last year. Vinny Curry was with the very first team for Derek Barnett..

– Avonte Maddox got first crack at the CB2 area opposite Darius Slay. It was Slay and Maddox outside and Nickell Robey-Coleman as the nickel corner. Sidney Jones, Rasul Douglas and CreVon LeBlanc were with the 2nd team..

– Without Jason Peters at ideal guard, Matt Pryor was in there. The first-string OL was: Dillard, Isaac Seumalo, Jason Kelce, Pryor, Lane Johnson.

We saw more Quez Watkins than Hightower on Monday. Thats most likely since DeSean wasnt taking every associate (he doesnt require to).

– The leading linebackers today were Nathan Gerry, T.J. Edwards and Alex Singleton. Singleton is dealing with the beginners today with Riley (health problem) out more than likely since he has been here for a while and knows the defense better than the rookies..

We got our very first look at novice quarterback Jalen Hurts, who looked solid. His best pass of the day was an outright penny down the best sideline to fellow rookie John Hightower, who beat Rasul Douglas in coverage.

– Without J.J. Arcega-Whiteside and Alshon Jeffery, Reagor was working as the X receiver to begin. So in 11 workers, the Eagles had Reagor, DeSean Jackson and Greg Ward out there. Other men blended in..

Second group OL: Mailata, Sua Opeta, Nate Herbig, Casey Tucker, Jack Driscoll.

9. Linebacker Alex Singleton dropped a gim me interception from Wentz that bounced right off his hands. It looked like Wentz attempted to thread the needle however this was a 10-10-10 practice so take that with a grain of salt. The Eagles utilize 10-10-10s to work out some things. Still, Singleton needs to make that pick. Hes battling for a lineup area..

He took the bulk of the reps on the first day in pads. A great very first day for 1st-round pick Jalen Reagor. Aside from a couple muffed punts previously in the day, Reagor looked solid as a returner and explosive on offense. The first time viewing these men in pads is weird due to the fact that it was a physical day. A little later in practice, he made the grab of the day in the back of the end zone.

Alshon Jeffery is on the Active/PUP right now so he isnt practicing however he did make an appearance. Using a pail hat above his surgical mask, Alshon wandered the sideline, played catch and even chatted with Wentz and DeSean throughout one practice period.

More on the Eagles.

Dumb Observation of the Day: Sometimes numbers give me a flashback and talking with Roob that never ends. Today, I saw No. 33 Elijah Holyfield running pretty upright and I flashed back to Josh Adams. Adams hasnt been here for a while..
