Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 5, Cardinals 4 – August 17, 2020 – bleachernation.com

The Cubs were down 4-1, with the one run coming as a total giveaway in the first inning. They hadnt recorded a hit on the night, and, coupled with the earlier rough performance in the day, simply seemed like they werent going to do much.
A rocket Willson Contreras double to score Javy Báez, a Jason Heyward walk, and then a pinch-hit three-run blast from David Bote later … all of a sudden the Cubs were on top. It took place so quickly. “Its baseball” can be an excellent thing, too.

Welp, Bote pinch-hitting for Vic. I guess deal still stands.

A rocket Willson Contreras double to score Javy Báez, a Jason Heyward walk, and then a pinch-hit three-run blast from David Bote later on … all of a sudden the Cubs were on top. It still essentially stands, though Botes swing alters the context a bit: “When Kyle Schwarber tries to bunt for a hit on an 0-2 count, you get a quite great sense of how the Cubs offense feels about itself right now. Oh, and in that exact same inning, after Willson Contreras squashed a double for the Cubs first hit of the night, Ian Happ attempted to bunt. All in all, a decent night from the Cubs bullpen, where they had to cover five innings after fill-in starter Tyson Miller got them two (two runs allowed). Cubs win.

I LOVE VICTOR CARATINI (and David Bote) pic.twitter.com/AZYoaBWIz3.

Complete box rating.

I can not believe the Cubs won that game, and if you were viewing through five innings, you wouldnt have believed it either.

Cubs win. Cubs win. The losing streak is over.

Heres what I d blogged about the 6th inning prior to Botes homer. It still essentially stands, though Botes swing alters the context a bit: “When Kyle Schwarber tries to bunt for a struck on an 0-2 count, you get a pretty good sense of how the Cubs offense feels about itself right now. He fouled it off and started out, by the way. Likewise offering a great sense of the offense. Oh, and because exact same inning, after Willson Contreras squashed a double for the Cubs first hit of the night, Ian Happ attempted to bunt. He was easily thrown out. What. The. F ***.”.
Anyway, back to the positive things, however. All in all, a decent night from the Cubs bullpen, where they had to cover 5 innings after fill-in starter Tyson Miller got them two (two runs permitted). Kyle Ryan quit back-to-back homers, however that was the only damage versus the pen.
Also, when Bote was pertaining to the plate to pinch hit for Caratini, heres something that took place– humiliating, but worth it:.
