We had an actually good reboot there in the first phase and got us third in stage one and then was simply kind of alright from there. We took a little shot at running long in stage 2 hoping for a yellow and didnt get it– part of the offer, just attempting and ended up ninth.
Alex Bowman– completed 21st: “This isnt how we wished to start off the doubleheader weekend. Getting that damage early on really impacted how our vehicle dealt with. The guys did all they could on pit road, but we were playing the cards we were dealt. Not the first outing we desired for Acronis, but we will make changes and modifications tonight and be gotten ready for tomorrows race.”

Bubba Wallace– completed 28th: “Not the very best effort today for our Richard Petty Motorsports No. 43 DoorDash Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE team. I believed we were going to have a decent day, and then we sort of lost it the second-half of the race. We lost the handling on our Chevrolet Camaro and just might not truly gain it back. Our DoorDash group tried to pull some technique to salvage a decent day and it did not go our method. We have another chance at it tomorrow with our partner Columbia for their very first race, so we are excited about that. Dover (International Speedway) is among the very best tracks we go to. We still have a lot of work to do. Well see what happens tomorrow.”
Tyler Reddick– finished 13th: “Today was an excellent start to our doubleheader weekend at Dover International Speedway. Our No. 8 Cat App Chevrolet was quickly from the start and just required some tweaking on handling. The track constructed actually tight in the beginning today, but changed throughout the race. I struggled with being too loose in the rear of our Camaro for the second half these days, which avoided me from attempting a couple various lines on the track, so thats something well need to adjust on for tomorrows race. However fortunately is we get a second shot to complete even much better tomorrow and we definitely have a solid Cat App Chevrolet to deal with. This is the finest start to a doubleheader weekend that weve had this year, so Im anticipating returning after it tomorrow.”
Michael McDowell– ended up 26th: “There may have been 10 or 12 guys who had truly great speed. You didnt see a lot of cars on the lead lap even in a brief race. We had great speed, however it was hard to pass for everybody. We just had to work track position and method. Well need to do the same tomorrow. I think we can take some notes to get some good changes into the Digital Ally Shield Cleanser Ford Mustang. Well require to have a good start and simply grind to keep up there. Were close, the outcome doesnt show it, however I believe we can have an excellent run on Sunday with simply a couple of adjustments.”
Luckily, we got it close after we messed with it a good bit and made some modifications, which assisted. We had some really good pit stops that put us in a decent position there too. I believe we simply needed a bit more to run with Denny (Hamlin), Kevin (Harvick) and those guys so we will try to get a little better for tomorrow.”
Brad Keselowski– completed 9th: “It was a good day. Absolutely nothing to write home about, but okay. We type of ran solidly in the leading 10 all the time. We had a really excellent restart there in the first phase and got us third in phase one and then was just kind of fine from there. We took a little chance at running long in phase two expecting a yellow and didnt get it– part of the deal, simply trying and ended up ninth. Theres not a lot to say besides that. The Gibbs cars were quite much lights-out faster than everyone and we did the very best we could to get what we had out of our day.
Every time I tried to move up and get some air on my cars and truck, he would just slide up in front of me like an idiot. We got the lead there in the pits and was able to use clean air to our advantage. It was firing off tight and getting loose on long runs.
John Hunter Nemechek– finished 24th: “It was a difficult day for our No. 38 ACME Markets team. Weve made notes for what to work on tomorrow and thats the great thing about these doubleheader weekends– you get another opportunity to enhance.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr.– ended up 10th: “That was a fun race in our No. 47 Kroger Chevrolet to mark off another top-10 finish. We were actually tight at the start of the race, however Brian Pattie made some truly great modifications throughout the race to help us get faster and faster. Our vehicles this year have been some of the best Ive had in my career, and this provides us a great deal of self-confidence heading into tomorrows race. We found out a lot today and Im delighted for tomorrow to continue tuning this up tonight and have an even better day tomorrow at Dover.”
Kevin Harvick– ended up 4th: “I wasnt excellent all day. Overall, our Mobil 1 Mustang simply never would turn and then we got it so it wouldnt turn and too loose. We had difficulty on pit roadway and needed to return in at one point, however everybody kept fighting and doing everything that they might and end up with a leading five.”
Kurt Busch– ended up 40th: “What an unfortunate way to have our day end on Lap 6. Method too early to be racing like that. We didnt even have an opportunity to get a feel for the automobile. Just disappointing for all of the men that work so hard, especially on the doubleheader weekends like this. Ideally we can turn our luck around tomorrow and have a strong run for the GEARWRENCH Chevy”.
Austin Dillon– ended up 15th: “We had a quick Dow Coatings Chevrolet today and it felt great to race at Dover International Speedway with a lot of speed. We just need to work on the managing a little. I seem like I covered every inch of this location, looking and experimenting for the very best line around the track for our tight-handling condition. We decided to avoid for the competitors caution in Stage 1 and our gamble settled with the race lead. Tidy air was whatever. We had a commanding lead early in Stage 1 however I just got too tight to hold the lead for completion of the stage. When we pitted at the end of Stage 2, we were released a speeding penalty and had to reboot at the tail end of the longest line. That mistake is on me. We ran long before pitting at the end of a caution but the race didnt fall the way we hoped it would and we wound up ending up 15th.
Kyle Busch– finished 3rd: Top-three– the Interstate Batteries Camry was strong there. I was following (Martin) Truex Jr. there for a little while on that last reboot and we kept fading. Kept fading loose and then we came in for our last pit stop and the damn vehicle went four numbers tight. Just insane. The flip-flop of balance that we had, it was so bad. I dont believe we altered an entire lot. I need to get with Adam (Stevens, crew chief) on that, however in general, we got really great there the previous time we put tires on under green and I was driving through a few individuals and getting to the front. I was positive about putting tires on it and going, however then it just went foolish tight. I do not understand. Thanks to Interstate Batteries, M&Ms– its good to get a solid leading three. Ideally, we can make a few changes tonight. We were close. We had some speed so attempt to work on it.”
Every time I attempted to move up and get some air on my automobile, he would just slide up in front of me like an idiot. I have to get with Adam (Stevens, crew chief) on that, however overall, we got actually good there the previous time we put tires on under green and I was driving through a couple of people and getting to the front. I think we simply required a little more to run with Denny (Hamlin), Kevin (Harvick) and those people so we will attempt to get a little better for tomorrow.”
Joey Logano– finished 8th: “We had a top-10 day with the Shell-Pennzoil Ford Mustang. The great news is that weve got another race tomorrow and we can change on the vehicle tonight and hopefully discover a bit more speed to battle in the top-five and for a win.”
Examine back for more.
Daniel Suarez– finished 30th: “I thought we were going to be pretty decent in the start. The first set of changes we made seemed to have us going in the ideal instructions. Our CommScope Toyota was in fact excellent on the first 20 laps of that run. But then the modifications we made on our next couple of stops wound up taking us in the incorrect instructions. The track ended up altering quite a bit, so it ended up being a discouraging day. We need to offer whatever a close look and go to work making the modifications we need to bring a much better automobile for Sunday. We just need to keep working hard.”
Jimmie Johnson– finished 7th: “Solid day for this Ally Chevy group, we have some work to do but we will go to work tonight and get it. Everyone did an excellent job, we have something to develop on tonight and we will return tomorrow and have something left for them. Bittersweet day tomorrow for me– my final Dover race.”
( What does it imply to lastly win at Dover after 29 starts?) “People constantly ask what your least preferred track is and I say Dover even if Im not that good. I love the track, I just havent been excellent here. We just have astounding vehicles right now. It looks like were coming to the race track prepared. Im putting the work in and were getting outcomes out of it.”
Ty Dillon– finished 18th: “My GEICO-Germain Racing people did a good job today and Im looking forward to tomorrows race. The Sunday races have actually been our more powerful race each time, which we will attempt to do again. We came out of the gate strong today and will look to equate that momentum into another strong finish tomorrow.”
Aric Almirola– completed 17th: “We had excellent speed in our Smithfield Ford Mustang today. A loose wheel put us behind and, with no warns in the last phase, we had no chance to return on the lead lap. I believe we might have been competitors today, but well return to it tomorrow with a great cars and truck and hope for a tidy day.”
Erik Jones– completed 12th: First off, I want to say sorry to Kurt (Busch) and the whole 1 group. I got into him on lap 1 or 2. Thats my error. I got tight and it ended their day truly fast. I feel bad. Ive raced with Kurt now awhile, and we have never ever had a concern and raced really well, so I desire to say sorry to him. Our day was type of hard from then on, we had to cut the left rear quarter-panel off after that and I think that harmed our balance a bit. I indicate, its not like night or day, however it absolutely didnt assist. The DeWalt Camry went back and forth. It was mostly loose all day. We tightened it up, however never seemed to be able to make a difference on it. Hopefully, we can utilize the exact same automobile and return tomorrow.”
Denny Hamlin– Winner: “Ive been running down the leaders these last couple of weeks, however I havent been able to get there. We had to go back and get it. I was able to work the top line there a little bit to get the momentum.
Cole Custer– ended up 11th: “Good rebound from recently. I think we have something to lean on for tomorrow. We can make this automobile much better and have an even better day tomorrow.”
Clint Bowyer– finished 6th: “Our No. 14 Haas Automation Ford was great right up there up until the final 40 laps or so, however we did what we needed to do today. We put some stage points up on the board and got a good surface. We are getting better weekly and this is a fantastic time of the year to do that. That was a great deal of enjoyable. Lets do this again tomorrow!”
