A rival executive forecasts the Mets will be a “unexpected player” at the trade deadline, thinking the group got monetary versatility when right-hander Marcus Stroman and outfielder Yoenis Céspedes pulled out of the 2020 season.
Other executives anticipate Mets basic manager Brodie Van Wagenen to be aggressive as he attempts to conserve his task with the sale of the team nearing completion. And still others believe the Wilpon ownership will back one last postseason push before they yield control of the club.
Sounds intriguing, but none of the above narratives will necessarily pertain to fulfillment. The 2020 deadline is made complex for a range of reasons– the shorter routine season, the expanded postseason, the hazard of disturbance from COVID-19. For the Mets, its a lot more complicated.
