Seven years after the release of the original, The Last of United States Part II is lastly out now on PlayStation 4. Even before release, writer-director Neil Druckmann acknowledged that some fans of the very first video game would dislike the sequel, and now that the game is out, hes reacted to more of the internet hate. This consists of hate directed toward one of the cast members, not due to the fact that of the star herself, but the character she plays.
Speaking on former Nintendo boss Reggie Fils-Aimes podcast, Druckmann said its worthless to eliminate against people when they share their opinions about a game– whether it be great or bad. Druckmann stated he cant understand how individuals get so worked up and upset about fictional characters.
” I believe you have to produce some separation to state, we made this video game, we think in this video game, were happy of this video game, now its out there and its like whatever reaction people have– whether they like it or not– thats fair,” Druckmann said. Its specifically more difficult when I see it happening to team members or cast members who play a specific character in the video game.”
” We have a star, shes been getting actually dreadful, repellent things due to the fact that of a fictional character shes playing in the video game,” Druckmann added. “I simply have a difficult time covering my mind around that. The thing I attempt to do is simply overlook it as much as I can. When things escalate to being serious, there are particular security procedures that we take and I report it to the appropriate authorities. You simply try to focus on the positives and focus on sidetracking yourself with other stuff. Its kind of simply the truth.”
In the interview, Druckmann said hes been speaking with Chernobyl author Craig Mazin about this subject. They are currently working together on the HBO TV version of The Last of Us.
He articulated it quite well, its like individuals have to get informed. When youre doing something huge, and you might dissatisfy fans, there is a cost to it now,” Druckmann said. “Which is, youre going to get a particular level of hate, a particular level of vitriol that you simply have to deal with.
In spite of some portion of the audience doing not like The Last of Us Part II, the game broke PlayStations sales records with 4 million copies sold in its first 3 days.
