The SEC also stated checking out bands would be restricted from going to video games at other SEC arenas if their fan capability was limited. Whether bands travel to neutral-site video games remains as much as private schools.
The restrictions on bands were a few of several guidelines the conference launched as the start of its season Sept. 26 starts to come into focus.
The reduced crowds that go to SEC games this fall should not anticipate the typical pageantry that accompanies major college football.
The SEC revealed Friday that school bands will be restricted from performing on field before games and during halftime. The league included, “The policy will be modified throughout the year based upon developments around COVID-19.”
Alabama released its own game-day rules previously this month that limited Bryant-Denny Stadium capability to 20 percent, required all fans to wear masks and prohibited tailgating.
The conference said press boxes will be kept at half capability, post-game news conferences will be conducted virtually and access to sidelines will be restricted. The SEC also informed schools that they need to offer a minimum of 500 lower-bowl tickets to the visiting school, even offered reduced capacities in places.
