The Saints have long thought that Kamara is every bit as good as Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey, if not much better. That created, as one source put it to PFT, a really real sense of stress and anxiety and apoplexy for the Saints, once McCaffrey signed his long-term deal worth $16 million annually and the Saints recognized that Kamara would want the exact same offer or something close to it, even if the Saints dont utilize Kamara as thoroughly as the Panthers utilize McCaffrey.
As one source explained it to PFT, the Saints in fact were calling other groups to gauge possible trade interest in the fourth-year tailback. It appears that this was part of an effort not to actually trade Kamara however to demonstrate that theres no other team that currently would give the Saints what they d desire for Kamara (presumably a lot) and likewise pay him what he desires (probably a lot more than what the Saints are using).
It currently seems that everything that has taken place in current days was simply part of the posturing aimed at getting an offer done, with a present belief that a deal will indeed get done. The truth that things got rare over the previous couple of days means that they could get rare once again between now and Monday, as the 2 sides pursue getting an offer done.
Thats not a guarantee an offer will be done by then. Currently, thats the goal. Indeed, its constantly been the objective. However things have gotten sideways a bit during the negotiations, leading to disputed reports of unexcused absences and rumor and reports of six-figure fines along with suggestions in some circles of a recent squabble that broke out between Kamara and coach Sean Payton.
