Just as Sony is preparing to formally reveal the pricing of the upcoming PlayStation 5 console, Bloomberg reported that there may be potential difficulty behind the scenes. According to its story Sony slashed its production forecast from 15 million systems to 11 million.
Its worth mentioning that early targets reported by Bloomberg were as low as 5-6 million, so its clear that a great deal of guesswork is involved.
Poor yields of the custom-made SoC that powers the console were quoted as a reason, but Sony actioned in to reject the reports.
Rival Microsoft is set to release the $300/EUR300 Xbox Series S and $500/EUR300 Series X on November 10 (and fans will be able to pre-order beginning on September 22). Meanwhile Nintendo is teasing a 4K version of the Switch for next year.
Hopefully Sony will be able to make sufficient PS5 consoles to satisfy the inescapable boost in demand throughout the holiday. You should inspect back tomorrow for the prices of the PlayStation 5 and the Digital Edition of the console (which is the same, simply without the Blu-ray drive).
