Steelers Alejandro Villanueva Wears Military Veteran’s Name On Helmet, Covering Antwon Rose Jr. – CBS Pittsburgh

Cashe, a Sgt. 1st Class passed away while rescuing fellow soldiers from a burning automobile. He was posthumously granted the Silver Star.

The name Alwyn Cashe could be seen composed on Villanuevas helmet as the Steelers played the Giants on Monday Night Football.

Responses to Villanuevas choice were mixed.

Before the game, the Steelers announced that the team would all wear Roses name on their helmets for the entirety of the 2020 season.

When he was shot and eliminated by a police officer in 2018, Rose was 17.

Philadelphia Eagles running back and Pittsburgh native Miles Sanders also chose to use Roses name on his helmet..

According to the Military Times, Cashe was killed in 2005 while serving in the Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

” As an organization, and myself as the head coach of the company, were going to support our players however they chose to take part and reveal themselves, or to not take part or not express themselves, as long as they do so attentively and with class,” said Tomlin Tuesday throughout an interview.
