Marvel Knew All Along that Captain Marvels Role Was Meant for Brie Larson, Fans Speculate – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

In 2019, Captain Marvel became the first solo film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to have a female lead. Brie Larson got cast to play the iconic superhero, Captain Marvel. While she does not star in the first female-centric superhero film, Larson may have changed future women’s superhero roles.

Larson has faced controversy since she joined the MCU, but many are happy that she is on board. Fans eagerly await the sequel movie titled Captain Marvel 2. Some speculate that Marvel Studios knew she was the right actress from the start.

There could have been a possibility that Captain Marvel would not have been Larson’s first superhero movie. Before she got the starring role as Carol Danvers, she auditioned for roles in two other Marvel films. The two films she auditioned for were none other than Thor and Iron Man 2.

Unfortunately, for Larson, she did not land a role in either of the two movies. Currently, it is unknown as to what roles she was trying to get. It seems that fans will have to wonder if she would have been well-known as another MCU character.

Perhaps, fans were lucky that she did not manage to get a part in those films. She would not have played such a popular character, who played a prominent role in Avengers: Endgame. However, an interesting fact is that she was close to not joining the MCU as Captain Marvel either.

In May 2020, Larson created her own YouTube channel. On September 3rd, she uploaded a video where she talks about the films that she auditioned for from 2008 to 2009. She stated in the video that Marvel Studios had approached her with the role of Captain Marvel.

Larson further said that she had rejected the role not once but twice. In her video, she says, “I remember they called, and they said, ‘Marvel is interested in you playing Captain Marvel,” and I was like, ‘Oh, I can’t do that. I’m like, I have too much anxiety.’” However, Larson eventually did say agree to play the part.

When Larson did meet with them, she saw the progressive approach they were taking with the film. When speaking to ABC News, she stated how Marvel Studios wanted to make a highly feminist film. She had met with the writers and enjoyed what they had to say.

Just like many other celebrities, Larson is no stranger to criticism, especially online. She has been dealing with a lot of backlash since Captain Marvel got released in 2019. There have been plenty of videos and social media posts that criticized both the film and the actress.

In fact, there are a number of fans who want her replaced in Captain Marvel 2. There was a petition that went around to remove her from her role as Carol Danvers. Some may feel she is too feminist, but the fans who created the petition had expressed the desire for better LGBTQ representation.

Despite all the criticism, there are plenty of fans who are excited to see her return as Captain Marvel in the upcoming sequel. Some may feel like Larson is suited for this role, and it would be hard to replace her.

On a Reddit post, some users believe that the studio knew Larson was right for the role from the beginning. One user goes on to say, “The MCU knew she was their Captain Marvel, i [sic] hope this shuts up the weirdos out there.”

Many people are now aware that Larson’s team contacted her multiple times to see if she was interested. According to ABC News on the character’s power, co-director Anna Boden states, “And Brie owns it. She really does.” It is easy to see why some fans may have guessed that Marvel always saw Larson as Captain Marvel.

Whether Marvel knew Larson was meant for the role or not, many are still excited for the sequel. They can expect Captain Marvel 2 to arrive in 2022.
