Manchester United fans say the same thing after Angel Gomes masterclass on Boavista debut – Manchester Evening News

Manchester United fans were left fuming after Angel Gomes registered three assists during his official debut for Boavista on the same day United lost their Premier League opener to Crystal Palace.

Gomes failed to agree a new contract at Old Trafford and was allowed to leave on a free earlier this year, joining Ligue 1 side Lille after months of speculation.

The 20-year-old signed a five-year deal with the French club but was immediately loaned to Portuguese side Boavista for the 2020/21 campaign.

He made his official debut for against Nacional and set up all three of his side’s goals in the 3-3 draw, with his second assist the pick of the bunch – chipping the ball over the defensive line with a first-time outside-of-the-boot pass.

While Gomes was the star of the show, United suffered a defeat in their first Premier League game of the season, losing 3-1 to Palace following a dismal showing at Old Trafford.

Gomes’ masterclass on the same day as United’s awful performance rubbed salt into the wounds of some supporters who were left bemoaning the midfielder’s exit all over again.

United summer signing Donny van de Beek scored after being introduced as a substitute and believes his new side were too slow in possession against the Eagles.

He told MUTV: “First match for the club, a day you want to win. It doesn’t matter how, you want to win and I’m really disappointed that we lost 3-1 at home, that’s really bad.

“In the week of training we did really well, we trained good so my feeling was really positive. But today we played too slowly, too long with the ball and I think against an opponent like Crystal Palace you need to speed up the game to create something. That was not good enough.”
