Former Phillies pitcher, three others die in Utah plane crash – CNN

The constables workplace search and rescue team together with a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter and Lone Peak Fire and Ambulance were called to the scene. The 4 victims died on impact, the press release said.

The Sheriffs office stated that Brummett, 35, had been piloting the aircraft. Killed were Alex Blackhurst Ruegner, 35; Elaine W. Blackhurst, 60; and Douglas Robinson Blackhurst, 62, all from Riverton.
Brummett was drafted in the 5th round by the Phillies in the 2007 MLB draft and spent 5 years in the groups minors system, making one appearance in the majors.

The crash was witnessed by a male out hiking with his 2 sons, who called 911, the news release said.
” The witness said the plane spiraled out of his view and moments later he heard the impact,” the release stated.

The aircraft crashed near Box Senior Peak in American Fork Canyon, the Utah County Sheriffs Office stated
in a news release.

In a declaration, the Philadelphia Phillies stated: “The Phillies company sends heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of former pitcher Tyson Brummett, in addition to 3 members of the Ruegner and Blackhurst households, who unfortunately died in an aircraft crash yesterday early morning.”
The NTSB and FAA are investigating the reason for the crash.
