Braves first base coach Eric Young Sr. has decided to step far from his role for the 2020 season, manager Brian Snitker informed reporters (including Gabriel Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution). Young is supposedly a higher-risk candidate for COVID-19, though as Burns notes, the group didnt disclose the specifics of the 53-year-old Youngs health scenario.
DeMarlo Hale will enter Youngs role as the very first base and outfielders coach. Hale signed up with the Braves as a special assistant and minors coach last season, and he has a long relationship with GM Alex Anthopoulos from their time together in Toronto (when Hale was heaven Jays bench coach and Anthopoulos was the basic supervisor). Young will continue to work with the group in a consulting function, with Snitker stating that Young “will be offered for the club (essentially). Hell be in constant interaction with DeMarlo and the outfielders.”
Young has actually been Atlantas first base coach for the last two seasons, and has six previous years of very first base coaching experience with the Diamondbacks and Rockies before joining the Braves company. Of course, Young is probably best kept in mind for his 15-season playing career, which saw him acquire 465 takes (connected for 48th in baseball history) playing with seven various groups from 1992-2006. Youngs child, Eric Jr., is also a ten-year MLB veteran.
I respect him even more for doing that and (being with) his household.”
