AMC Games’ Airplane Mode — the Microsoft Flight Simulator for the rest of us — is coming to Mac and Windows PC on Oct. 15. When AMC Games says this is “the most realistic flight simulator ever created,” the company means it. Who does Microsoft think we are, anyway? Skilled airline pilots? Not a chance! Airplane Mode understands that we’re all just adult children who need a flight attendant to tell us where our seat’s electrical outlet is. Every time we fly.
From developer Bacronym Games, Airplane Mode lets the player delight in a two- or six-hour flight, from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport to either Halifax, Nova Scotia, in Canada, or Reykjavik, Iceland. AMC Games released a live-action trailer on Thursday that you can watch above.
And the developer thought of everything. Crying baby? Yes, you’ve got it. Meal service? Of course. In-flight safety video produced by IFC? Yep, that too. Think you’re risk-free from delays? Not a chance!
In Thursday’s news release, AMC Games said Airplane Mode features a host of content for players to enjoy while in their seats. Of course, there’s a magazine — called Stratospheres — where you can read stuff and play sudoku. Don’t forget your cellphone charger, because you can also listen to an ambient music podcast from musician and game developer Noah Sasso. There are other exclusive podcasts coming, too — but they haven’t been announced yet. Good luck listening to them, though, if you’ve got bad Wi-Fi on your flight.
“Experience what might possibly be the most challenging videogame you’ve ever played,” the developer wrote in the news release. “Will you experience the relief of being disconnected from the outside world? Or will listlessness prove to be your final boss battle?”
Honestly, it feels like it could go either way. Airplane Mode will cost $11.99 when it’s released for Mac and Windows PC on Steam.
