Syracuse football game vs. Georgia Tech delayed to confirm coronavirus test results – syracuse.com

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse football’s game against Georgia Tech was delayed to confirm negative Covid-19 test results, the school said.

The game, scheduled to start at noon, was delayed a little more than 30 minutes while three Syracuse players were retested for Covid-19. Syracuse did not have any positive Covid-19 tests. The school wanted to confirm the three negative tests with Onondaga County health officials.

The sudden delay is a product of the environment schools and conferences have accepted in order to proceed with fall sports competition amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Syracuse football is tested three times per week, in accordance with ACC protocol, and undergoes third-party testing on Friday. Those tests are shipped to a lab in North Carolina. Results are returned before the start of the game.
