Timbaland and One Republic once said, “It’s too late to apologize.”
That may be the case with certain things in life, but some members of the Bills Mafia are currently accepting apologies when it comes to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
Literally, you can apologize for being wrong about the Bills quarterback. The fan base has apology forms circulating on Twitter and Reddit. In addition to the headline photo, here is another version of the apology form for anyone who bashed Buffalo for selecting the QB or those who believed Allen was destined to be a bust.
Don’t feel too bad if you find yourself among the group of people who may be filling out an apology form. You have some good company.
Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders referred to him as a “parody of an NFL quarterback prospect.”
Via Football Outsiders 2018 Almanac:
“A parody of an NFL quarterback prospect, Allen was abysmal in 2017 en route to not even making an all-Mountain West team. We don’t want to say there’s absolutely no chance he’ll ever be good – he’s got a deep ball, he’s got some ability to make plays on the run and under pressure – but there is zero empirical evidence to support him becoming a reasonable NFL starting quarterback. And if you thought the excuses for his supporting cast were bad in Wyoming, wait till you see this Bills offense. … Allen is the battleground that old scouts are going to die on, whether they’re right about it or, as all evidence suggests, wrong about it.”
He wasn’t alone in his criticism of the Bills quarterback.
Former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman essentially said it was hard to envision Allen ever overcoming his accuracy issues.
Doug Kyed of NESN bashed the quarterback’s accuracy.
Barrett Sailee of CBS Sports went as far as to say that the Bills love mediocrity.
Old Takes Exposed, a page that shares bad takes, said they could write an exposition based on all of the anti-Josh Allen takes if he led Buffalo to a Super Bowl.
Some analysts are starting to admit they were wrong. It’s not too late for others to join the party after Allen’s outstanding play through three weeks.
The quarterback has been nothing but brilliant for the team and has carried Buffalo to wins in the past two weeks. His performance on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams saw him complete 24-of-33 passes (73%) for 311 yards and four touchdowns. He added a fifth touchdown on the ground in the 35-32 win.
Through three games, Allen has 1,038 yards passing and 10 touchdowns with a completion percentage over 70%. He also has two rushing touchdowns this season.
Simply put, Allen has been a legitimate MVP candidate through three weeks. His comfort level with Brian Daboll’s offense is apparent and he is doing an excellent job of spreading the ball around to Stefon Diggs, John Brown, Cole Beasley, Gabriel Davis and others.
Some naysayers will probably never admit that they were wrong about the Bills quarterback, but Allen deserves a lot of praise–and just as many apology forms–based on how much he has developed in his time with Buffalo.
