“He had to go!” Jose Mourinho explains Eric Dier’s mid-match tunnel dash during Carabao Cup win – Cartilage Free Captain

Midway through the 2nd half of Tottenham Hotspurs penalty shootout win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, Eric Dier unexpectedly took off and dashed straight down the Tottenham tunnel. He was followed shortly later on by Jose Mourinho, which is when those watching started to figure out what was going on.

It ends up that there was absolutely nothing wrong– well, nothing seriously incorrect, anyway– Dier apparently needed to use the, um, facilities and his manager followed to make sure he returned safely, and rapidly!

Later on, Mourinho was inquired about what occurred and Mourinho was sincere about Diers little trip, though thankfully he wasnt too explicit.

Naturally, jokes abounded on social networks, including yours truly.

” He had to go! No other chance, he had to go.
” I understood that he had to go, but I was simply attempting to put some pressure on him to get him back for the remaining time!”

Dier had a great video game against Chelsea and didnt let his bout of … uh, Dierrhea affect his efficiency. He also transformed the first of 5 charges in the shootout to help win the match for Spurs, and later on was the first individual to console Chelseas Mason Mount, which made everyone hope he had time to wash his hands.

I woudnt say its common, however its definitely not unusual for players to simply have a wee on the pitch in the middle of the video game. Many of the time fans do not even see at the time.

Weird scenes as @ericdier runs off the pitch to the dressing space, followed hastily by Mourinho. Then Dier runs back out to resume playing. Presumably he needed the loo. Players simply dont shit on the pitch anymore. Whats wrong with them?– Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) September 29, 2020

Even Gary Lineker, former Spurs striker, Match of the Day host, and well-known on-pitch pants crapper, participated the fun. A minimum of Dier made it to the restroom.

Dier also had a little enjoyable at his own expenditure on Instagram after the match.

Of course, if the football authorities dont care about players, I care.

Eric appeared to have left everything on the pitch after that game (except for, y know). Mourinho said that, after playing tonight and likewise Sunday against Newcastle, that Dier would be sitting out Thursdays crucial Europa League certifying playoff match versus Maccabi Haifa.
