Missouri football coach Eli Drinkwitz stated theres no consistent SEC policy for public reporting of COVID-19 test results, and no sharing of that information amongst the 14 member programs.
Drinkwitz told reporters on Wednesday that he has “no idea” whats happening with other groups from week to week.
” Its type of a free-for-all,” he said.
The SEC did not react to an ask for comment.
Drinkwitz, who is in his first year at Missouri, said that whether there need to be an uniform policy is “above my head.”
However Auburn coach Gus Malzahn stated he would be in favor of such a policy, mentioning how gamer security is a leading concern.
” For me, transparency is actually great,” Malzahn said. “So I d be all for that.”
Several schools, such as Alabama, have actually picked not to disclose the variety of favorable COVID-19 results of football gamers, citing privacy laws.
A study by ESPN published previously this month revealed that nearly half of the Power 5 teams will not disclose COVID-19 testing information.
Missouri was without five players due to COVID-19 screening throughout last Saturdays 38-19 loss to Alabama.
Drinkwitz, who informed press reporters heading into the video game that the players would be out, said at the time, “This is a public health problem. Its not a competitive advantage problem. … People need to know whats going on within our football team as it associates with a pandemic.”
Missouri will go on the roadway to play No. 21 Tennessee on Saturday.
