Last nights starting nine brought some interesting quirks. Kyle Higashioka, basically Gerrit Coles personal catcher at this point, got the start, and Aaron Boone chose lefty-swinging Brett Gardner against the right-handed Shane Bieber. Gary Sánchez will reenter the lineup to catch Tanaka and bat ninth, while Gardner stays in left field versus another righty in Carlos Carrasco. Clint Frazier is again on the bench. Boones decision to choose Gardner settled handsomely yesterday, but its still pretty wild that the Yankees cant find a method to get Frazier and his 149 wRC+ into the lineup.
The Yankees can liquidate their Wild Card Series with Cleveland quickly, with Masahiro Tanaka on the mound to start Video game Two. New york city announced their lineup supporting Tanaka in this possible liquidate game.
With Gardner beginning, Sánchez in the nine-hole for Higashioka is the only change in the total card:
With last nights blowout, the Yankees enter this video game with a lead and a rested bullpen. They have every opportunity to go for the kill and end this series before Cleveland can leave the mat. Lets hope this is the lineup that does the job.
