Bayern Munich announced the fixture dates for the Champions League group stage. The Bavarians will begin their title defense at home on October 21 against Atletico Madrid. Bayern will then go to Russia the next week to play Lokomotiv Moscow on October 27, followed by a shorter trip to Austria to take on Red Bull Salzburg on November 3. This caps off a three week run of mid-week matches. After a two-week break, Bayern will host Red Bull at the Allianz Arena on November 25. Bayern will then make the trip to Madrid to play Atletico on December 1 before finishing the group stage, hosting Lokomotiv Moscow on December 9.
Due to the condensed season, these weeks will test Bayern in both the Bundesliga and the Champions league. In the first stretch of games Bayern will host Eintracht Frankfurt on the first weekend, but will have to go on the road to Cologne in the second weekend and to Borussia Dortmund the third weekend. During the second half of the group stage, Bayern will visit Stuttgart the first weekend, host RB Leipzig the second weekend, and go to Berlin to face Union Berlin the third weekend.
On a positive note, Bayern will not have to worry about the DFB Pokal during the group stage. Bayern’s first round match will take place on October 15, and if they advance, the next match would take place on December 22 or 23.
