The most important one is the COVID-19 pandemic which shut baseball down for four months and rid the video game of billions of dollars. The Phillies remained in settlements with Realmuto when the baseball world (and roster moves) froze. Realmuto was dealing with a two-month season ahead of totally free company when things resumed. Why not just let it play out and work out on the free market? A two-month season is a lot various than a six-month grind.
