Santa Clara County COVID-19 regulations “compelled” Sunday Night Football commentators Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth to wear masks for the totality of Sundays 49ers-Eagles video game, and the duo made it understood they did not enjoy it.
A masked Michaels started the broadcast by quipping to the audience that, “We are not auditioning for The Masked Singer,” before introducing Collinsworth.

After Collinsworth mentioned that his ears were injuring, Michaels said, “Were good boys, though. Were going to get lollipops at the end of the game tonight.”

“Well get rid of these things as quickly as we possibly can,” Michaels stated as Collinsworth made a sound.

Health officials in Kansas City, Los Angeles, Seattle and New Orleans did not need the duo to wear masks in the broadcast cubicle for prior Sunday Night Football video games. Los Angeles and Seattle have comparable public health constraints to those in place in the Bay Area.

Michaels and Collinsworth will go back to Seattle next week for Vikings-Seahawks, and Michaels seemed excited to get out of town.

When inquired about the more strict requirements, Santa Clara County Executive Jeff Smith said only, “We wouldnt desire them to end up like the president.”

” I dont know who I am,” Collinsworth said through the mask.

The analysts largely called the video game without issues, however took a while to complain about the mask-wearing in the third quarter.
