Phoenix Increasing FC midfielder Junior Flemmings has been suspended for 6 games for utilizing a homophobic slur against San Diego Faithful midfielder Collin Martin, the USL Championship said in a declaration here on Tuesday.
The incident happened at the end of the first half of a match last week, which the Devoted were leading 3-1, and prompted a heated conflict between the two managers.
Flemmings in a social media post recently denied having used a homophobic slur against Martin.
His restriction follows an examination that consisted of 11 interviews with gamers, coaches and match officials, the USL Championship stated, and covers the entire of the playoffs.
Phoenix Rising FC said in a declaration here on their website that Flemmings will stay on administrative leave through the end of his agreement on Nov. 30.
” We will use this as a chance to learn, be a force and grow for modification, as we work towards removing bias from our sport and our community,” said Phoenix Rising FC General Manager Bobby Dulle.
The Loyal emerged for the second half of the game but right away walked off the field, forfeiting the match and effectively ending their hope of reaching the playoffs.
The USL Championship is the countrys second-tier competitors below Major League Soccer.
Martin, who is openly gay, said in a video on Twitter that he had the full assistance of his group mates and manager Landon Donovan, who required action versus Flemmings.
” I never had a word said to me like that,” stated Martin. “I felt personally assaulted.”
