Over the years, Google has established the custom of introducing some new camera features with the latest Pixel devices. With the launch of the Pixel 5 and the Pixel 4a 5G last month, Google took the same route and showcased new features, like Night Sight for portrait mode, that will be exclusively available on the latest devices. Exactly a fortnight after the launch of the new Pixel smartphones, Google is releasing the Google Camera version 8.0 with an updated user interface and some other subtle changes including easier zoom controls, wide-angle views for the Portrait mode, and a new leveler to fix frontal or backward tilt among other features. Google Camera 8.0 also makes it easy to capture videos in different modes with easily accessible settings and share them instantly to your favorite social media apps with Social Share.

The new Google Camera 8.0 app will originally be available on the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G before rolling out for older Pixel devices. But for those who have any of the older Pixel devices and want to try out the latest Google Camera app right now, we have extracted it from the Pixel 5 now that the phone’s review embargo has lifted. You can install GCam 8.0 on older Pixel smartphones running Android 11, which includes the Pixel 2/2 XL, Pixel 3/3 XL, Pixel 3a/3a XL, Pixel 4/4 XL, and the Pixel 4a. Just download the app bundle file from the link below and install it using the Split APKs Installer (SAI) app.

Once you download the .apks bundle on your smartphone, open the SAI app and tap on “Install APKs” button at the bottom of the page. Locate the folder where you saved the file downloaded above, check the box, and then tap on Select. After waiting for a few seconds, you should see a prompt to install the update. We confirmed this update can be installed on our own Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 3 XL, and Pixel 4 running the latest stable Android 11 release, but your mileage may vary.
