Le’Veon Bell joined the Jets in the 2019 offseason, but following a year-plus of working together, it became clear it just wasn’t a fit.
On Tuesday night, the Jets announced the release of the veteran running back and he is now officially a free agent.
Before releasing him, the Jets tried to trade him and had conversations with a few teams, including the Patriots — according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“The last conversions for a trade that the Jets had were with the Miami Dolphins, the Las Vegas Raiders, and the New England Patriots,” he said on ESPN Wednesday. “They had conversations with those teams, the issue was nobody was willing to take on Le’Veon Bell’s contract at this time. So, the Jets made the decision to move on from Le’Veon Bell.”
Bell signed a four-year deal worth $52.5 million, including $27 million guaranteed in 2019.
