Emotions ran high for UCF after a 50-49 loss at Memphis. Mere moments after the video game, a pair of Knights appeared to enter a battle on the sideline at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee.
As the Tigers knelt out a final second, sophomore kicker Daniel Obarski and third-year sophomore quarterback Quadry Jones were revealed by the ABC broadcasts cams in an evident conflict.
Jones, a backup for the Knights, appeared to approach Obarski after he hooked his prospective game-winning field goal from 40 yards out wide left. Long snappers Tyler Paul and Alex Ward were in the middle of the two.
UCF (2-2) drove down the field on a seven-play, 53-yard drive in 49 seconds. Sophomore quarterback Dillon Gabriel finished 4 of 6 passes, providing the Knights a last-second chance after a go-ahead goal by the Tigers with 1:08 left.
Memphis (2-1) took the lead after a nine-play, 85-yard drive in 1:30. Tigers senior quarterback Brady White completed a four-year touchdown pass to Calvin Austin III, making ball game 50-49.
UCF blew a 21-point lead, 35-14 at the 3rd quarters 11:32 mark. Gabriels 14-yard goal run provided the Knights their greatest lead of the day and they appeared primed to runaway with a thrashing.
Memphis, meanwhile, mounted an unbelievably comeback. The Tigers were led by White, who completed 34 of 50 passes (68.0 percent) for 486 lawns and six touchdowns to zero interceptions.
UCF, however, likewise concerned use offense. The Knights out-gained Memphis, 798-703, in a shootout between 2 AAC heavyweights.
