Boxing fans were outraged by questionable scorecard in Lopez – Lomachenko title fight – For The Win

They had the right guy winning, but the margin of victory was, to put it kindly, surprising.

A lot of fans had it as a minor win for Lopez, if not a draw. (Some gave the second round to Lomachenko.) Commentator Andre Ward had it scored 114-114 draw on the broadcast.

The last scorecard particularly seemed one from a different fight, and fans were plainly upset about the 119-109 scoring from Lederman.

… That would not be a precise reflection of truth, a minimum of according to a lot of boxing fans. While Lopez owned the early rounds, arguably winning the very first 6, Lomachenko then controlled the next 5, just for Lopez to come roaring back in a thrilling last round.

The official scorecards informed a different story. The fight was scored 116-112 by Tim Cheatham, 117-111 by Steve Weisfield and 119-109 by Julie Lederman.

If you didnt see a second of the title battle between Teofimo Lopez and Vasiliy Lomachenko, and simply saw the cards, you d believe Lopez cruised easily to an upset win over the pound-for-pound champ.

119 -109 ooowwweeee that was a good fight however that score was so ill-mannered

I desire to fulfill the Judge who had Lopez 119-109.

Most fans had it as a minor win for Lopez, if not a draw. Teofimo Lopez beat a terrific champion. The rounds Lopez won werent close. Lopez stayed competitive in the rounds that Lomachenko won, while the rounds Lopez won were total dominances. One wild scorecard doesnt alter the reality that the right boxer won.

Y all gone start listening to me about this boxing ♂ … 119-109 was wild but I do not wish to hear excuses. Piece de resistance by @teofimolopez.

That 119-109 by Julie Lederman is unacceptable. What the hell? #LomaLopez.

ESPNs Myron Medcalf had some good viewpoint:.

Lopez remained competitive in the rounds that Lomachenko won, while the rounds Lopez won were total dominances. One wild scorecard doesnt alter the fact that the ideal boxer won.

That stated, 119-109 is crazy as heck. 116-112 was the very best scorecard, IMO.
