When Nintendo revealed the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection for the Switch in September, it made it very clear it would be a “limited-time” release that would only available until the end of March 2021.
What will happen to each of these games in this collection once it’s gone, though? NPD’s industry Analyst, Mat Piscatella, recently shared his own theory about what might happen to each of these games – stating how he expects them to be offered separately:
“I don’t think these games will disappear, like what would happen with the old school Disney Vault. But I think there may be additional flexibility and buying options. For example, à la carte purchasing options on eShop.”
In fact, Piscatella thinks the strong sales and demand for Super Mario 3D All-Stars should give Nintendo “additional confidence in bringing other legacy titles” to its new platforms. In saying this, it’s hard to say what a company like this could do.
“But again, it’s Nintendo, so I expect to be surprised.”
Super Mario 3D All-Stars isn’t the only limited-time release Nintendo has offered recently. The battle royale Super Mario Bros. 35 will also only be playable until the end of March next year.
The free-to-download title Jump Rope Challenge was another game that was planned as a limited-time release until Nintendo decided to extend its availability.
