Reinstated pass rusher David Irving ecstatic as Raiders add another ex-Cowboy – The Athletic

A year and a half ago, David Irving announced he was quitting football. He did so in an Instagram post, which was memorable because the Cowboys defensive lineman appeared to be smoking marijuana at the time. 

Well, Irving is back, and he’s toned it down considerably. He is now with the Las Vegas Raiders, after signing Tuesday with a team that wanted to add a pass rusher. Irving, who had 12 sacks in his last 25 games with the Cowboys, was reinstated by the NFL on Friday — after the league had suspended him indefinitely on March 1, 2019, for his third substance abuse policy violation. He obviously had to walk back that Instagram post a little bit. 

“He is ecstatic,” Daniel Moskowitz, Irving’s lawyer, said Tuesday evening. “There couldn’t be a better fit.”

The league no longer tests for marijuana use, and Irving, 27, applied for reinstatement in late July. The process went smoothly, a league…
