f No. 8 Penn State is going to be the biggest threat to No. 5 Ohio State in the Big Ten East, it can’t afford to drop winnable games. The Nittany Lions definitely have their work cut out for them against Indiana, which they trail 17-7 at the half in the opening game for each team.
The story for Penn State so far has been turnovers. Quarterback Sean Clifford has thrown two ugly interceptions, both of which have resulted in points for the Hoosiers. The first came on a botched screen pass while the other was an overthrow that gave the Hoosiers great field position in plus territory. Clifford also fumbled the ball deep in Hoosiers territory before the end of the first half when his team had an opportunity to put points on the board. Indiana hasn’t played great offensively, but running back Stevie Scott III has a pair of touchdowns and 47 yards on 10 attempts. Indiana’s defense has been the real difference maker, limiting Penn State’s offense to just a few chunk yardage plays. This has been the type of mistake-prone, grind-it-out game the Hoosiers need to win. Now the question becomes whether they can keep that going for the next 30 minutes.
